King Charles' Orchestra with a large-scale concert in Sofia

English Chamber Orchestra will play on July 13 in front of the Cathedral St. Alexander Nevsky

 

"We are happy that our first big concert after the pandemic will take place in the capital of Bulgaria Sofia, on the emblematic square in front of the cathedral "St. Alexander Nevsky," said James Rutherford, manager of the world-famous English Chamber Orchestra. At a press conference at the Sofia City Art Gallery together with the Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova, Miroslav Borshosh – Deputy Mayor of Sofia and H.E. Dr. Robert John Dixon event. Since 1977, the British composition has had Prince Charles III as its patron, as well as the privilege of playing at numerous events of importance to the royal family. In Sofia will sound works by classics such as Mozart, Handel, Bach and Elgar, as well as popular works by British composers. The program will be honored with the presence of young Bulgarian talents who will perform specially developed Bulgarian folklore songs to the accompaniment of the English Chamber Orchestra as a reverence to the native audience.

This is long-awaited and very good news for classical music lovers – it is one of the most famous, most beloved orchestras in the UK and around the world. Being in Sofia will be a great privilege. - Ambassador Dixon said. He thanked Sofia Municipality and Mayor Fandakova that in the historic year of the coronation of King Charles III, the Bulgarian audience will welcome one of the emblematic orchestras of Great Britain.

The presentation of concerts with classical music became a tradition in Sofia. Three years ago, in front of the Cathedral "St. Alexander Nevsky" the concert of Sonya Yoncheva and Plácido Domingo took place, after that the orchestra of the “Schönbrunn” Palace, Fandakova also said. These are open-air concerts taking place in a particularly landmark place for the city, such as "St. Alexander Nevsky and the temple, patron of the capital "St. Sofia", also added Mayor Fandakova.

The Deputy Mayor of Sofia for culture Miroslav Borshosh stressed that the organization of such an outdoor forum is very serious, Sofia Municipality for the third consecutive year organizes such large-scale concerts on square "St. Alexander Nevsky". The open-air concert will be attended by 21 musicians, virtuosos of string and brass instruments. One of the special guests on stage will be the magical violinist Stephanie Gonley, who has been the leader of the English Chamber Orchestra since the early 1990s and an acting violin professor at Guildhall School.

On “Alexander Nevsky" square we will hear live yet another of the great musicians of our time – concert master John Mills. Leader of the London Symphony, he works with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and others. He is also the head of major studio orchestras working on some of the most expensive blockbuster movies in Hollywood - "Batman", "Jurassic Park", "Beauty and the Beast", "Thor: Love and Storm" and others.

The English Chamber Orchestra is an orchestra with a long history and boasts with a business card that few other orchestras around the world have. In his discography we find 860 recordings and more than 1500 works inspired by the work of over 400 composers.

Over the years, English Chamber Orchestra has played with some of the world's greatest musicians, and their performances have not gone unnoticed in the world of pop culture, as the orchestra works on the soundtrack of several James Bond movies, as well as Dario Marianelli's sheet music for hit productions such as "Redemption" and "Pride and Prejudice". 

 The orchestra has played in many different places around the world, as James Rutherford pointing out that one of the riskiest places of all are cruise ships on which the orchestra has performed musical works for royalties from all around the world.
