The mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova, the chairman of the Organization of Jews in Bulgaria "Shalom", the ambassadors of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Spain - H.E. Rob Dixon, H.E. Alejandro Polanco Mata started the initiative to clean the streets of our city from the language and symbols of hatred. It is being held for the fifth year and is under the title "Together Against Hate", as swastikas and other symbols of hatred and hostility painted on buildings are being cleaned up.
"Today we will once again declare that Sofia has been a city of tolerance and wisdom for thousands of years, and we want it to remain as such, - said Mayor Fandakova. - We are united in the effort to clean the city of hate, figuratively and literally. This is an effort against vandalism, and I hope that the whole society will have intransigence towards these manifestations," the capital's mayor also pointed out.
"We are here together to show that united we can fight against speech of hate. Sofia is not a city of hate" - said Prof. Dr. Alexander Oskar.
The initiative will continue along “Tsar Ivan Asen II” Street. Teams of the Metropolitan Inspectorate monitor and periodically remove hate signs from public places.
